Many modern scopes use wire crosshairs, which can be flattened to various degrees to change the width. Originally crosshairs were constructed out of hair or spiderweb, these materials being sufficiently thin and strong. Reticle illumination is provided by a tritium ampoule embedded in the elevation turret. Wire crosshairs Etched "FinnDot" reticle (a regular mil-dot reticle with the addition of 400 m – 1200 m holdover (stadiametric) rangefinding brackets for 1 meter high or 0.5 meter wide targets at 400, 600, 800, 10 m). This enables an experienced shooter to deduce, on the basis of the known size of an object in view, (as opposed to guess or estimate) the range within an acceptable error limit. Called a 30/30 reticle, the thin bars on such a reticle span 30 minutes of arc (0.5º), which is approximately equal to 30 inches (76 cm) at 100 yards (91 m). ![]() The thin bars in a duplex reticle may also be designed to be used as a measure. The thick bars allow the eye to quickly locate the center of the reticle, and the thin lines in the center allow for precision aiming. The most popular types of cross-hair in modern scopes are variants on the duplex cross-hair, with bars that are thick on the perimeter and thin out in the middle. Thicker bars are much easier to discern against a complex background, but lack the precision of thin bars. While the traditional thin crossing lines are the original and still the most familiar cross-hair shape, they are really best suited for precision aiming at high contrast targets, as the thin lines are easily lost in complex backgrounds, such as those encountered while hunting. Motion pictures and the media often use a view through crosshairs as a dramatic device, which has given crosshairs wide cultural exposure. Telescopic sights for firearms, generally just called scopes, are probably the device most often associated with crosshairs. Another candidate as inventor is the amateur astronomer William Gascoigne, who predated Hooke. The reticle is said to have been invented by Robert Hooke, and dates to the 17th century. Most commonly associated with telescopic sights for aiming firearms, crosshairs are also common in optical instruments used for astronomy and surveying, and are also popular in graphical user interfaces as a precision pointer. Crosshairs are typically represented as a pair of perpendicularly intersecting lines in the shape of a cross, "+", though many variations of additional features exist including dots, posts, concentric circles/ horseshoes, chevrons, graduated markings, or a combination of above. There are many variations of reticle pattern this article concerns itself mainly with the most rudimentary reticle: the crosshair. Both terms may be used to describe any set of patterns used for aiding visual measurements and calibrations, but in modern use reticle is most commonly used for weapon sights, while graticule is more widely used for non-weapon measuring instruments such as oscilloscope display, astronomic telescopes, microscopes and slides, surveying instruments and other similar devices. Today, engraved lines or embedded fibers may be replaced by a digital image superimposed on a screen or eyepiece. Reticle of Bell & Howell Pocket Comparator Reticle accessory (PD-8) used in sniper riflesĪ reticle, or reticule also known as a graticule, is a pattern of fine lines or markings built into the eyepiece of an optical device such as a telescopic sight, spotting scope, theodolite, optical microscope or the screen of an oscilloscope, to provide measurement references during visual inspections. To analyze the sloped section, I decided to use a method I created for TankCalc - see Figure 2. There's no simple, closed-form equation for this part. More difficult - the tank's sloped section, which lies between the tank's bottom and the top of the slope where the tank becomes a cylinder. The easy part - the cylindrical section above the slope, which has a volume of:.Some requests have an infelicitous combination of rarity and mathematical difficulty, but this one isn't too difficult, and it's my hope that there are more such tanks out there so this analysis will prove useful to others.įigure 2: Equation for partial circle areas (from TankCalc)Īnalysis of partial volumes of this tank type can be broken down into two subproblems: Have you any methods by which I could calculate the volume? I can find methods for calculating the volume using vertical sections of the wedge - but liquid is not quite nice enough to stand on end in infinitesimal slices so these do not work. The issue is in trying to model volume of any given horizontal section of the cylindrical wedge. Once the level is above the cylindrical wedge section, volume calculations are trivial. ![]() We have a series of fermentors that are vertical cylinders but have a sloped base. I have an interesting problem here at work. Here's an excerpt from the original request: The tank described here falls into that category, and I hope it's common enough for this analysis to be useful. Every once in a while I get a request that's reasonable and practical enough to pursue an analysis. Since I origially wrote TankCalc years ago, I've gotten requests to write equations and compute values for any number of strange tank shapes. Figure 1: A storage tank with a sloped bottom section ![]() 1/28/2024 0 Comments Snipping tool download windows![]() ![]() And, yes, I know that whenever one mentions win 7 one gets a thundering rebuke from pinkElephant but I am working in an office with about 7-10 PCs and they are all running Win 7 and working perfectly. I assume by this point that this is a limitation of Win 7 so I won't worry about it anymore. When I select that option, it brings up that awful "snipping tool". I also notice that when I bring up the Evernote Helper (ctl-alt-H) it has only one little option on the bottom ("capture screen") and not all 3. And no matter what shortcut I designate it brings up the snipping tool. This then opens a chrome extension that allows me to select "screen shot" and then opens up a different annotation feature which has typing as an option. The only way around this for me is to not use crtl-alt-S but instead to use the green elephant icon at the top right of my address bar. This allows me to snip text without any problems but I do not have text annotation in this tool. When I use Crl-Alt-S it opens the "snipping tool" which is not the cross hairs tool. I use Win 7 and what you describe does not work in the same way for me. By the way, I have found a work-around for this ie:if you have Legacy opened but minimized at the same time that you use v10, then you are able to use the Legacy clipping tool (cross hairs) for v10. So I need to save the clip, go back to EN v10 and then right click the image and select "Annotate this image". Instead my shortcut (Win-C) opens up the "snipping tool" which is not as good because it does not offer annotation by typing. ![]() First of all, I can not activate the "cross hairs" on v10. I can always go back to EN later and organize it. It allows me to quickly go through documents, clip what I want, add a little explanatory text to it and then continue reading. I can do this on the fly without leaving my current focus or visiting EN. This opens up cross hairs which allows me to clip text into a separate window which includes annotating tools such as typing. In Legacy I use Win+Prt Scrn to activate a clip. Unlike for the webclipper you cannot annotate screen shots directly during the creation process - I don't recall whrther you could in legacy. ![]() Try usig it directly from the elephant icon in the task bar and see what happens. There are I believe examples of people getting the windows snipping tool instead but I expect that is a shortcut confict. The V10 "capture screen" functionaility is very different from legacy. As I mentioned this tool is limited by the fact that you can not type annotations in it. I can not get these cross hairs in v10 and instead find that I get the snipping tool instead. It seems to be activated on Win+Prt Scrn and gives me the cross hairs to take screen shots and annotate them if I please. The EN web clipper is the exact name listed on the chrome extension that I have installed. This is slowing down the workflow i used to have and I'm wondering if there's a workaround. Bottom line, Legacy allows you to type an annotation directly on the clip whereas with v10 you can only type an annotation once the clip is saved into a new note on the desktop. I find that I actually have to save the clip and then go back to the EN desktop and annotate it there. Drawing and underlining are OK but a typing option would be far more useful. I do not see an annotation option that allows me to type. I do not seem to have this option in v10 ie: when I use the snipping tool it opens a little dialog box that allows me to annotate, but only by drawing or underlining. I find it enormously useful because certain workflows involve my looking through financial documents, taking a screenshot of various issues and typing some annotations (all of which is done without having to glance at the EN desktop. In Legacy when I use the webclipper I have the option of launching the annotation directly upon taking the screenshot and typing some clarifying comments before I close it. Hence, you cannot start snippingtool.exe because it is not present in that folder.Īnd all those give me an error that basically says it cannot find the file, however the file path seems to be correct, I can copy paste it into a window and it opens the snipping tool, any ideas why it will not work? ![]() Basically, for several reasons, in vista/windows 7 64-bit OS'es when a 32 bit application try to access to C:\Windows\System32\ it is automatically redirected to the folder called C:\Windows\SysWOW64\. ![]() ![]() ![]() Drapery rods, even the most understated styles, are still visible in the room.
